Both the fall & winter paid subscriptions have now gone out! I realised I never shared the summer newsletter when I sent the fall one, so I’m sharing both here now.
I’ve also decided to pause paid subscriptions for the time being. If you are already a paid subscriber, don’t worry! There will still be delights in your mailbox until your subscription comes to it’s natural end. I love doing the physical mailings, but I have a few other projects I need to focus on for 2024, so I’m trying to make a bit more space.
Summer mailing 2023
This summer I spent a month in Normandie and the mailing was original cat art I found in the local brocantes, or flea markets. I always knew France had a tradition of these (I’ve been to the famous ones in Paris of course), but the ones in Normandie (and I imagine the other areas of France outside of Paris) were less about high end antiques (though there was some of that too) and more about small treasures.
So I found a trove of cat postcards that I couldn’t resist and shared them with paid subscribers. The illustrated ones were my favourite, but there were also a few photographic ones that felt like the internet before the internet. If you read French then there is the added bonus of a peek into the past via the 100 year old correspondence.
Fall 2023 mailing
For the next mailing in the fall, I wanted to do something a little different, but I hadn’t been travelling and the first semester of teaching was keeping me very busy. But I had a writing residency in Scotland for a week and used that time to think about what I wanted to share in the mail.
I decided to send out some of the drawings I was making, but since none of them were really a series I decided to send them out as pairs of prints, with a few notes. Each subscriber got half of one of these letters and a print, but I’m sharing the full one here since it’s the first time they can see the whole artwork here as well.
I’ll share the Winter mailing when the Spring one goes out, as usual, and one until the current subscribers are fulfilled. Thanks everyone for all your support both on this newsletter and with your orders, emails, and sharing photos of our work. It’s a privilege to know you through this work. xx kim
