But not as I expected. For 2022, I kept up a daily diary practice that was really satisfying and totally changed my painting. I thought I would stop in 2023 because it took a lot of time and I was hoping to spend more time with the ideas that surfaced from the work in 2022 (and I was tired of trying to work fast and instead wanted to slow down with the pictures).
But I couldn’t resist buying another big agenda book! And as I looked back and thought about what I’d made in 2022, I noticed that at first I wrote a lot about what I did each day, but that really started to fade as I got more and more into the pictures. SO I thought maybe I’d try to put aside the image making and instead keep recording what was happening to me.
I’ve so enjoyed it without the pressure of posting every day! I can’t say it’s been as formative for my creative development as last year, but it has been freeing and it feels really good to note what I was doing and to know I will go back to look at it at some point. I’ll share again at the end of the year and maybe continue into 2024!
